Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.)
Seniors
and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.) is a cooperative effort of
the Linn County Sheriffs Office; Lebanon, Albany, and Sweet Home
police departments; Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP); and Linn
County senior citizens.
The S.A.L.T. Council meets the first Tuesday of each month at 1:30 p.m. at the Albany Senior Center.
S.A.L.T. provides a forum for seniors and law enforcement to share needs and concerns and develop positive solutions.
Safe And Secure Seniors Independent (S.A.S.S.I.)

local law enforcement agencies who offer free home security and fire

Therefore, all of S.A.S.S.I.s services are provided at lower or no cost, depending on individual need. No one should have to compromise safety and security due to their economic circumstances.
The following free or low-cost services are provided by S.A.S.S.I.:
- Home security inspections.
- Security hardware installation.
- Visible address numbers.
- Engraving valuables.
- Personal safety education.
- Identifying potential accident hazards.

Dont be a victim. Take action to protect yourself and your home today:
- Discourage burglars make entry to your home difficult by having adequate door and window locks (1" dead bolt locks are a must), leave exterior lights on at night when youre home, inside lights when youre not, and consider having a dog (even a small dog can act as a deterrent).
- Know your neighbors! Be aware of each others living habits and who comes and goes from the houses in your neighborhood. Report strangers who appear to be out of the ordinary to police.
- Fatal residential fires are often caused by: combustibles placed too close to a heat source, unattended heat sources, careless smoking, and mechanical failure or malfunction.

Tel-a-Tend
Tel-A-Tend
is a free computer calling system that telephones seniors or others who
live alone, are disabled, or are in need of daily contact.
The Tel-A-Tend client may choose up to 5 calls per 24-hour period depending on how many calls s/he would like to receive. Each call can deliver a customized message, such as reminders to take medication, in English or another language. The system is monitored around the clock. If the client does not respond to a phone call, the computer will contact a neighbor or relative designated by the client. If they are not available, the system alerts the appropriate law enforcement agency, giving pertinent information concerning the client and an officer checks on the clients welfare.
Tel-A-Tend is provided at no cost and no special equipment is needed except a touch-tone telephone. Outside home lock boxes are required for all clients and are provided by the Tel-A-Tend program. Volunteers explain the program and responsibilities for clients in their own homes.
The Tel-A-Tend program serves residents of Albany, Tangent, Lebanon, Sweet Home, and Scio.
Tel-A-Tend benefits include:
- Assurance that an individual living alone will be contacted in case they become incapacitated or are unable to call for help.
- Daily monitoring for a shut-in or disabled person living alone.
- Daily reminders to take medication.
- Allowing seniors or individuals to continue living independently in their own homes.
